The studio's grounding in tropical villa design — natural ventilation, thatch and timber detailing, indoor-outdoor bathrooms, resort-scale masterplanning in Bali — is directly relevant to the aesthetic and spatial language Maldives clients often want. What it doesn't include is built experience with overwater platform construction, marine-grade structural engineering, or Maldivian environmental permitting, none of which the studio has completed to date. A first Maldives project would pair Bali-led design and interiors with a locally experienced engineering and permitting team.
Freshwater and power supply are also constrained on most islands, which typically pushes projects toward desalination and generator or solar systems rather than mains utilities — a planning consideration that has to be priced and designed for early, not added later.
Has the studio built in the Maldives? No. There is no completed Maldives project; the studio's built portfolio is in Bali and Indonesia, plus a few Caribbean and Latin American projects.
Who handles the marine engineering and environmental permits? A locally based or regionally experienced engineering and permitting team, engaged alongside the studio for anything involving overwater structures or reef-adjacent construction.
