Colombia's climate range — from Cartagena's humid coast to Bogotá's cool high plateau — means there's no single "tropical architecture" answer here. Antonio Rutilio's Latin America and Caribbean design experience is the starting point for a Colombia project, not a finished portfolio in the country.
Cartagena and Santa Marta sit at sea level with Caribbean humidity close to what Antonio Rutilio designs for in the Dominican Republic — cross-ventilation, deep shade, materials that tolerate salt air. Medellín's mild mid-altitude climate allows more open, indoor-outdoor living year-round without the cooling load of the coast. Bogotá, at over 2,600 metres, is a different problem again: cooler temperatures, strong UV at altitude, and a denser urban context closer to a European city than a beach town. A design approach built only for one of these would fail in the other two.
Antonio Rutilio has not yet completed a built project in Colombia. What the studio brings is direct experience designing for comparable Caribbean and Latin American conditions — coastal villas and resort work in the Dominican Republic, interior design in Panama City, and tropical residential design across Indonesia — combined with Italian training in proportion, material honesty and light. For a first Colombia project, that combination matters more than a stock library of local renderings.
