The Vision
Architectural Concept & Vision
Villa Sumba Sundagatt is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Sumba’s vernacular architecture, where simplicity, horizontality, and connection to nature define the spatial experience. The project is organized as a series of open, flowing volumes that gently follow the landscape, creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior living.
A defining feature of the composition is the central vertical element, inspired by traditional Sumbanese towers, which acts as both a symbolic and spatial anchor. Around it, the villa unfolds with clean lines and generous overhangs, offering protection from the tropical climate while maintaining openness and transparency.
The architecture emphasizes passive design strategies, with cross-ventilation, shaded terraces, and carefully oriented spaces that respond to sun and wind. Water elements and the infinity pool extend the living spaces outward, reinforcing a continuous dialogue between architecture, horizon, and ocean.
The result is a refined yet grounded residence that balances contemporary design with local identity, creating a private sanctuary deeply rooted in its context.
